West Coast Qualifiers Announced for Young Horse Dressage Program

The US Equestrian Federation has announced its 2010 USEF National Young Horse Dressage program with the following show on the West Coast hosting qualifying classes:

2/11-14:  Thermal
2/26-28:  Burbank
3/12-14:  Del Mar
4/1-4:  Burbank
4/29-5/2:  Del Mar
The West Coast Championships will be held at Flintridge, May 28-30.
Mission statement for the USEF program is as follows:  The purpose of this program is to encourage the properly structured development of young horse dressage prospects through the training scale; to identify and recognize outstanding talent and the training of international-caliber horses; and to prepare these horses for future careers at the FEI level and participation on U.S. High Performance teams.
Classes for young horses turning 4, 5 or 6 in 2010 will be held at each show venue.  A separate test has been specially designed for each age group to best demonstrate the expectations for that year in training.  The tests roughly correspond to the National Dressage tests, but are limited to horses of that specific year group.

“The Horse Illustrated” reports death of Blue Hors Matine

Dressage mare Blue Hors Matine, whose dressage freestyle at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen became an Internet video sensation, was euthanized today after breaking a leg in a paddock accident, Horse and Hound reported.

The 13-year-old Dutch mare was ridden by Andreas Helgstrand. She was retired from competition following a tendon injury at the Las Vegas World Cup in 2007.

Blue Hors Stud Director Esben Moller said in a statement Matine broke her right forelimb at the knee while out in her pasture.

The YouTube video of her 2006 WEG freestyle has received nearly 10 million views.

Oldenburg Horse Breeders Celebrate Top Mare and Top Foal AwardsRelease: January 27, 2010
Author: by Stephanie Law

In 2009, Nancy Holwesko of Crosiadore Farm in Trappe, MD, presented a number of excellent foals and mares to the Oldenburg Horse Breeders’ Society, and in the end she was honored by having both the top mare and top foal of the 2009 North American Inspection Season. The mare, Fiderline, who she bought at the 2006 Oldenburg Elite Foal Auction in Vechta, Germany, had the highest scores of any mare at the two Mare Performance Tests held in 2009 in Maryland and California. The Deputy Breeding Director of the German Oldenburg Verband, Katrin Burger, commented that Fiderline would be very competitive with the best mares in Germany.  The top mare in the West Coast Mare Performance Test, Redhawk’s Prophecy, was bred in California by Bob and Lynn DeGour of Redhawk Ranch in Murrieta, California.

Holwesko’s colt, Quote Unquote, was also outstanding. He is sired by Quaterback, and is out of Nancy’s mare, Florenzio (by Florencio), who was the top mare of the 2008 inspection season. He is an exceptional type, and has three incredible gaits. This year, since there was a large debate between two colts, the committee decided to also give an honorable mention to the second colt they had been discussing. He was Redhawk’s Don Sargasso (Don Schufro), bred and owned by Bob and Lynn DeGour of Redhawk Ranch in California.

Damsire:  Genius (x Gotthard)

Many thanks to Alyssa Pitts of Northern California for stepping up and giving the abandoned Romischer Prinz a home.  “Romie” was the Southern Germany Vice Champion colt in 2002.  Imported by Red Hawk Ranch as a weanling.  Tremendous potential for the show ring with presence, charisma and gaits to match.   We wish Rommie and Alyssa the best of luck for their future together.

Damsire:  Voltaire (x Furioso II)

Congratulations to Lynn Bollinger on her investment in Redhawk’s Reach Out.  “Teddy” was an elite auction foal imported from Germany as a weanling.  Registered name is “Reach Out.”  This charmer has graduated from basic training to show a unique ability for the big ring in jumping.  Has the character to be a super match to a talented young rider.   Went to his first jumping show at Showpark in  March 2009 with a 1st at 3′3 and a 2nd in the 3′6 speed class.  Photo above is of his first time showing on the grass.  Very handy jumper with a big future.

February 12 ‘10:  Heard from Christi Best that Teddy is on his way to the beautiful Del Mar, San Diego show facility, “ShowPark” and that the two of them are back together again.  Best of everything to the pair!  We look forward to hearing of their show ring successes!
